Frustration from your laptop hanging is understandable and it happens. Understanding the common causes and solutions should ensure that effective services are delivered:

Insufficient memory (RAM) leads to the laptop struggling to run multiple applications which causes it to freeze. Upgrading the RAM and closing the unused applications are viable solutions to freeing up existing memory.

Overheating happens due to insufficient ventilation, accumulation of dust and fans malfunctioning which lead to system slowdown. Applicable solution is to ensure ventilation, remove dust from the vents and use a cooling pad. In extreme situations, replace the faulty pad.

Malware affected laptop impacts on the stability of the system which can lead to slowing down. The solution is to undertake a full scope system scan using antivirus software to eradicate threats.

Corruption of the system files impacts on the working of the OS leading to freezing. The solution is to utilize system tools such as “System File Checker” or macOS’s “Disk Utility” to examine and repair the corrupted files.

Software bugs originate from poor optimization of the software which leads to conflicts and freezing of the system. It is advisable to constantly update the operating system and uninstall problematic applications.

Hard drive problems are attributed to failure of the hardware especially the HDDS which are characterized by bad sectors and slow read and write speeds. Solution is to run checks to determine existent errors and opt to use an SDD which is faster in performance.

Low storage space is caused by a full hard drive which affects system performance. Recommendation is to free up the disk space or transition to an external storage.

Background processes can cause a laptop to hang due to the various applications running at the same time. The Task Manager is invaluable since it can identify and cancel the unnecessary processes.

Outdated drivers especially for the network operations and graphics can lead to system freeze. It is prudent to update the graphics cards, network adapters and the critical components of the drivers.

Power supply issues such as battery failure and power fluctuations affect the system leading to hanging. Always checking the battery and power adapter to determine efficiency and need to replace are viable solutions.

An efficient and effective laptop requires you to consistently check for the common problems that impede on its function.
